Help us buy our building.

For 14 years we’ve been leasing a building we fill with local food, local owners, and local dollars. We now have the chance to own it — and we need your help to close the deal.

A note from Jacob

Big news.

We’ve lowered our fundraising goal to $140,000 (down from $200,000), and we’re already at $85,000. That means we’re more than halfway there — but we need your help in these final crucial weeks.

While in escrow, we’ve been fighting for every advantage to make this building ours. Our hard work paid off — the seller agreed to credits for necessary repairs, including a new roof. This is our moment.

To those individuals and businesses who gave early — thank you. You believed in this from the beginning. Now we’re asking our entire community to rally together. Whether you’re giving for the first time or giving again, your donation today will secure our future.

In cooperation, Jacob Mingle — General Manager

Campaign FAQ

The questions we keep getting.

Why purchase the building?
Our most recent market study confirmed we haven't outgrown this building — and that if we do, the cost of moving is enormous. Owning it secures our location, ends annual rent increases, and keeps the budget predictable for decades.
What happens if we don’t hit the goal?
We've structured the deal so that falling short means we renegotiate, not collapse. But we need to hit the goal on time to take the best terms. Every donation makes those terms better.
Who owns the building after?
The Placerville Food Co-op — meaning, the 2,500+ owners. No single individual. The same model as the store: one owner, one vote, democratic control.
Can my business donate?
Absolutely. Business donations are tax-deductible through the El Dorado Community Foundation. Email info@placervillefood.coop with the subject line “Capital Campaign” and we'll route you through.
